Ship’s agent. Person who takes care of the interests of a ship while she is in port. It is within his obligations to find pilots, tugs and a berth for the ship, also the signing of bills of lading and the collection of freight. The agent is paid by the shipowner.
Comments: In Greek ports such as Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Volos, Patras, Heraklion, etc., there are dozens of ship’s agents, as well as in all ports around the world. Any merchant ship (cargo or passenger) calling at any port around the world is required to be represented by a ship’s agent.
